Building on the good results of the mating of a long-barrelled anti-tank gun with the Pzkw.III chassis to make an effective weapon platform against the Soviet T-34 in the form of the Sturmgeschutz III, requests were made to the German tank industry to create something even better. The result was the Sd.Kfz162 IV Tank Destroyer which went into production starting in 1944, based on the Pzkw.IV “J” model chassis.
